Idealista is a useful app and website to help you find Spanish property. It’s available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, and is one of the most popular apps for Spaniards looking to rent or buy properties.

Idealista is very simple to use, with millions of listings (literally) and covers just about everywhere in Spain. If you’re looking for your dream Spanish property it could be a good place to start.

Learning the language


So, you’ve decided to learn Spanish. This will help ingratiate yourself with the locals and with getting your NIE sorted out… but where do you start?

Duolingo is a powerful app for helping you to learn Spanish, their strapline is “Learn a language for free. Forever” so you won’t be stuck paying a fee just as you get going. The bite-sized lessons are well thought through and the App makes learning languages more fun with “gamification”. You can race against the clock and earn points for correct answers, increasing your level as you complete lessons.

Getting around


Although maybe not as well-known as Uber, MyTaxi is a useful app for getting around in Spain. The App itself has over 10 million users and 45,000 taxis, and is very popular in Spain. MyTaxi is free to download and use and there is no need for cash as you can pay for your taxi journey using the App.

BlaBlaCar is a car-pooling App that connects you with drivers travelling to the same location with spare seats. The App is available across most of Europe and is popular in Spain. You could look to pay around £30 for a shared trip from Barcelona to Madrid, or £7.50 from Alicante to Denia – so a lot cheaper than taxis or trains.

When looking for a ride you can see the time of the journey, how many spare seats in the vehicle and the space available for baggage. You can also see a profile of the driver and reviews from other travellers.
