Sterling Exchange Rates As Scotland Votes

This morning the polls have opened in Scotland and they decide whether they want to be an independent country or not. The opinion polls have shown it is neck and neck with it being too close to call so with the results starting to come out in the early hours of this morning the next 48 hours could be absolutely crucial for Sterling exchange rates and therefore those clients that are looking to transfer funds internationally. With so much uncertainty hanging over the UK at present no one can be sure of exactly what will happenĀ  when the results are announced but the majority of opinion is that should the Scots vote Yes then it could lead to Sterling weakness as the uncertainty would be likely to grow and we could see a large part of the UK economy leaves. There are still so many unanswered questions, what currency will Scotland take? how much of the UK debt will they take on? what will happen to funding of the NHS in Scotland? to name just a few.

Regardless of what happens with the results the next couple of days are likely to be very busy in the currency markets and so if you need to transfer funds internationally it will be more important than ever to stay in close contact with your account manager here at Foreign Currency Direct plc so we can keep you informed of all the latest currency movement and discuss the options available to you.
